Anne-Elie Etienne
Anne-Elie Etienne is a New York State Licensed Practical Nurse who believes in centering the holistic needs of each individual as the cornerstone of good health care. Her nursing career began at the age of 16 as the youngest in her class to attain state licensure and has continued over the last 15 years to include work with patients from birth through late adulthood in outpatient, inpatient, and community healthcare settings.
After completing her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2013, Anne-Elie began working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the Palm Beach School for Autism. Here she established a multifaceted school health program to effectively manage the evolving needs of the student population and facilitate the necessary training for the staff who care for them.
From 2017 to 2019 Anne-Elie served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) in the country of Belize as a Rural Health Educator. Here she first witnessed the impact of Community Health Workers (CHWs) on their local communities and the vital role they play in reducing the health disparities that exist around the world. Throughout her service she worked in partnership with a local Nurse and CHW to provide training, education, and support to aid in the reduction of chronic illness risk factors for the local population. As her final project, Anne-Elie led a taskforce of PCVs to collaborate with government and local counterparts in the development of Belize’s first comprehensive Health, Family, and Life Education toolkit for primary school educators.
Following Peace Corps service Anne-Elie worked extensively as a provider to support the needs of children with severe disabilities. At the Columbia Center for Community Health, Anne-Elie now lends her expertise and enthusiasm as a nurse and facilitator to support the critical work of CHWs in improving the health, wellbeing, and quality of life for fellow New Yorkers.
